Synopsis
Giovanni and Pietro are two sicilian brothers emigrated to Torino. Giovanni, the older, is illitterate. He is sure that only culture can redeem oneself from misery. For this reason he has got an ambitious project: he wants his brother Pietro study and became an elementary school teacher. Giovanni wants his brother goes to school very strongly, even if it will cost a difficult and humble work. For Giovanni this cultural utopia slowly becames a sort of a magnificent obsession. The story will have a worrying end: as time goes by the two brothers will change and face a changed Italy, where the dream to make progress through the knowledge has lost itself in a irremediable way.
