Synopsis
Seven days (and nights) in the life of Marcello, a tabloid journalist.
His job involves him trying to catch celebrities. He tends to get quite close to his subject. Two such subjects are a local heiress, Maddalena, and a Swedish superstar- actress, Sylvia, both of whom he has affairs with. This is despite being engaged to Emma, a sweet but clingy and insecure, woman.
Despite his extravagant, pleasure-filled lifestyle, he is torn between making something serious of his life or drifting along on a pleasant if empty stream of casual affairs and profitable, but meaningless work.
La Dolce Vita gave us the freedom to go ahead and break open cinematic narratives while at the same time creating a spectacle of life, a spectacle of a society, a culture and a satire… He wiped away all his concerns as a filmmaker with story on this picture and changed the world that way – Martin Scorsese
